Come Alive in The Brecks – which spans 370 sq. miles/940 sq. kilometres across Norfolk and Suffolk in the heart of the East of England – one of the driest parts of Britain.

Discover Strange and Beautiful Places
The Brecks, a landscape of tranquil forest, open heathland and agricultural land, is home to many unique or distinctive birds, plants and animals. Catch a glimpse of the Stone Curlew at Weeting Heath or spot roaming deer in the Forest – but there is much more.

Explore our History and Ancient Landscapes
The Brecks is steeped in human history stretching back to the Stone Age. A Neolithic Flint mine (The Brecks is the flint capital of the UK), Medieval rabbit farming and 19th Century landed Estates are amongst the many clues to human settlement to be found in The Brecks. This is a landscape which remains full of historical and ecological interest.
The effects of the last 'ice age’ can be seen nowhere else in Britain and Ireland as extensively as in The Brecks. 12,000 years ago, Ice bubbles created Pingos and perma frost created distinctive patterns and features. Find out more from our Ice Age Relics page by clicking here.

Walk, Cycle and Horse ride off the beaten track
The distinctive Brecks landscape offers an amazing variety of cycling, walking and horse riding routes and trails. Follow an ancient trackway and way marked trails such as The Peddars Way and Icknield Way. Forest paths and bridleways can be also found within Thetford Forest, the largest lowland pine forest in Britain. Click here for more ideas for Great Days Out.

Chirstmas Starts Here
It may still only be November, but Christmas really is starting in the next couple of weeks in the Brecks.
Get festive at Oxborough Hall
Oxborough Hall near Swaffham will be getting you in the Festive mood with their Cooking For Christmas workshop on 21st November, Festive Garland workshop on 29th November and Christmas Estate Walk on 30th November.
The Elveden Elves are back!
Yes the Elveden Elves make a welcome return this year, whether it is a Christmas tree you are looking for, Christmas gifts, or you just need to get in the Festive mood, Elveden Estate will be able to help.
Their world famous Christmas trees can be purchased from 28th November, and to Celebrate their Christmas lights are also being switched on on this date too, along with Carol Singers and Newfoundland Dogs to give it a real Christmas feel.

Travel around The Brecks

Help us to protect the special landscape of The Brecks by exploring the area without a car (much healthier too). Bring your own bicycle or hire one here and have it delivered to your accommodation to await your arrival.
These are just some examples of sustainable local transport services. The Brecks Bus (01638 608080) and The Flexibus (0845 6002315) are ring and ride services that will take you from your door and get you out and about in the countryside.
